The Home Secretary has suspended the family reunion route from 04 September 2025. The family reunion route allowed the family of people granted refugee status or humanitarian protection to request for their pre-flight family to join them in the UK.
The only requirement was for the applicants to prove that the relationship between the sponsor and the applicant spouse or unmarried partner or civil partner and children continued to subsist from the time the applicant arrived in the UK.
There was no financial requirement, adequate accommodation or English language requirement under this route.
After 4 September 2025 the applicants will need to submit an application under the Appendix FM of the immigration rules and will need to meet all the requirements such as income of £29000, English requirement at Level A 1 of the CEFR, adequate accommodation and relationship requirement.
The rules are being changed in order to streamline and achieve more equality for all the applicants rather than providing a favourable position for people who are granted refugee and humanitarian protection.
